In 2020, Mattis graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Neuroscience of Music from Brown University, where his thesis, “Time perception in film is modulated by sensory modality and arousal,” explored the intricate relationship between music, emotions, and the perception of time in cinema. His research has been published in academic journals, contributing valuable insights to the field of film and cognitive science.

Continuing his education, Mattis pursued a dual master’s degree in Composition for Screen through the International masters program: InMICS (International Masters in Composition for Screen) at the conservatories of Bologna and Ghent.

At Feldenkrais Education, Mattis applies his artistic, technical, and storytelling expertise to produce educational content, including the animated piece “What is Feldenkrais” and a series of short documentaries highlighting practitioners’ work. His dedication lies in crafting innovative and contemporary ways to present and promote the Feldenkrais Method, broadening its accessibility to a wider audience.

Mattis co-directed and composed the score for the 2022 documentary feature “The Time of the Fireflies,” which garnered critical acclaim, winning the Golden Gate Award for Best Mid-Length Film at the San Francisco International Film Festival. In addition to his filmmaking projects, his compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles such as The Edinburgh Quartet, and he continues to perform as a bass player with the band ROZA.

By integrating his diverse expertise, Mattis creates works that are both artistically compelling and intellectually engaging.
