In the first part of the event, Robert Sussuma will share his unique approach, blending expertise in voice and somatic education into a unified discipline. Robert has developed a groundbreaking pedagogy that integrates experiential learning, somatic education, vocal science, technique, and personal growth. His method offers vocalists a transformative pathway to enhance their artistry and well-being.

The second part of the event features three short documentaries:

1.The first highlights Marie Adeline Henry, an opera singer, and how the Feldenkrais Method helped her overcome burnout and transform her vocal practice, enabling her to return to the stage.

2. The second features Anita Morrison, who integrates the Feldenkrais Method into her teaching approach with 8-13 year old choristers and Cambridge university students, demonstrating how she incorporates learning strategies into vocal warm-ups.

3. The third presents Aline Seytre’s work, a speech therapist, specialized in working with individuals experiencing voice disorders or neurological dysarthria

The event will conclude with a Q&A session with Robert Sussuma.

This week's 5 lessons

A Somatic Approach to Finding Your Voice

Day 1  : A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO VOCAL PERFORMANCE

What if the way of vocal technique were not the only way to improve your singing ? Through this immersive presentation, which will introduce you to some of the fundamentals of this approach, you will improve the efficiency of your vocal development in a way that blends a new understanding of vocal learning with your lived vocal experience.

Day 2  : VOCAL CONSTELLATIONS

To be a good singer, let's start by knowing our instrument and understanding how it works. Indeed, voice is coordination. In this somatic and vocal experience, discover how synchronizing your eyes and mouth can impact your vocal abilities.

Day 3  : THE TONGUE IN ALL ITS GLORY

The tongue alone has 17 muscles. 17 muscles themselves connected to many other crucial parts for the singer. We invite you, through this session, to play with its connections and to discover how to release unnecessary tension, improve coordination, and unlock new vocal freedom.

Day 4  : MAGIC MOUTH SOUNDS

Every day we use our mouth to communicate. From onomatopoeia to more organized words, we are not really aware of what we are doing. Discover how careful and creative explorations of these can impact, among other things, the volume and resonance of the voice.

Day 5  : THE TOPSY-TURVY VOICE

To sing is to move your whole self. In this final lesson, we integrate everything you’ve learned by exploring how the voice is connected from head to toe. Step into the Singing-Self scrambler. Let's engage the whole performer, unlock new dimensions of expression, agility, presence and ease in your singing. You will emerge different from how you went in.

This series isn’t about working harder or focusing on problems--it’s about singing and learning to sing in a way that integrates your entire system through awareness in new ways. Whether you’re a singer seeking more freedom in your voice or a teacher looking for novel ways to support your students, these lessons will open up fresh possibilities for vocal growth and artistic exploration and prepare you for the live workshops that will be the continuation of this series in the Fall

THE SKELETAL VOICE (Brussels, Oct. 2-5)

THE SINGER'S VOICE (Paris, Oct. 18-21).
